Update: 56th Congress (2020)
We are, naturally, aware that questions will be asked concerning whether this year’s congress will go ahead in light of the current Covid-19 pandemic. At the beginning of April, it was agreed that a final decision on this matter would be taken by the start of June 2020. A decision will accordingly be published on this website by Sunday 7 June. Entries for 2020 are not being accepted, pending a final decision. If anyone has any particular questions or comments concerning this, please contact the congress secretary, Liam Varnam.
Since 1964 the congress has been held annually over the August Bank Holiday weekend, attracting players from the local area and further afield. Our current venue is St Piran’s School, Maidenhead.
The top two sections of the congress are FIDE-rated, and all sections are ECF-graded. The congress is also a British Chess Championship qualifying event.
As one of the UK’s longest-running weekend congresses, we are always keen to welcome new players, as well as those who have played in previous years. We have sections suitable for all levels, from near-beginners upwards. We look forward to seeing you at this year’s event.
